Conforma Clad’s Tri-Metallic Advantage provides the industry’s top wear protection, with a hard, abrasion-resistant bore and a ductile, chip-resistant apex.

Your extruder barrel’s apexes are continuously exposed to severe wear. Traditional protective coatings applied to apexes quickly chip, leaving them defenseless. Conforma Clad’s Tri-Metallic Advantage combines unique cladding formulas to provide abrasion-resistant bores and ductile, chip-resistant apexes.

History of Tri-Metallic Apex:

  • 1980 — Conforma Clad developed wear protection for extrusion barrels.
  • 1990 — Improved barrel cladding with welded apexes.
  • 1992 — Introduced apexes clad with WC200.
  • 1996 — Barrels successfully clad with WC200 in bores and WC219 on apexes, providing superior protection to both bores and apexes. This formula is also known as WPR29.

Conforma Clad Bores and Apex

Clad barrel — 4140 steel clad with 1-1.5mm of WC 200 in bores and WC 219 on apex

Finished barrel — Ra 32 min. finish

Traditional wear protection:

Cast Liners — often chip due to brittleness

Spun Cast Liners — tend to split at the apex
