Conforma Clad Announces New Technology

New Albany, IN - October 30, 2007

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Conforma Clad, a global leader of severe wear solutions, has announced a new technology for coating components. This patented technology allows Conforma Clad to use tungsten carbide cladding to coat less accessible areas of components and apply metallurgically bonded protection to any complex geometry.

Previously, Conforma Clad® wear protection was only available to parts and components with easily accessible surfaces. With the new technology, those limitations no longer apply. For example, parts with an inner diameter (ID) less than one inch or blind holes can now be fully protected using Conforma Clad cladding.

“Length to diameter ratio is not a constraint with Conforma Clad cladding, as with other technologies,” explains Padma Durbha, Director of Research and Development, “we coat areas we cannot see, therefore, we virtually have no boundaries on the geometries of parts we can protect.”

Technologies, such as thermal spray and weld overlay protection, must be applied to areas which the applier can see and reach the part’s surface.

Conforma Clad is a leading provider of severe wear solutions for industrial components exposed to extreme abrasion, corrosion and erosion. The proprietary Conforma Clad process brazes tungsten carbide to the base material of steel parts, producing a hard, uniform protective cladding that is extremely durable. The company is a major supplier of wear-resistant parts for directional oil and gas drilling, plastics and food extrusion, coal-fired power plants and other industrial applications. Conforma Clad is a business unit of Kennametal Inc. (NYSE: KMT), the world's premier supplier of tooling solutions, engineered components and advanced materials. Customers buy approximately $2.4 billion annually of Kennametal® products and services -- delivered by 13,500 talented employees in over 60 countries -- with approximately 50 percent of these revenues coming from outside the United States.
